Yoshinkan Head Dojo. Yoshinkan Aikido is not a sport. Aikido is the development and strengthening of the body and mind, and the practical side of Aikido must never be forgotten. However, Aikido is for all, irrespective of age, sex, race or culture. In 1990, Gozo Shioda and his son, Yasuhisa Shioda, established the International Yoshinkan Aikido Federation (AYF). This International Federation has become very successful in promoting the development of Yoshinkan Aikido in countries around the world.

This school was founded to promote and develop Aikido in the Sacramento County and surrounding areas and is located in the Community of Orangevale. This school and its instructors are registered with the Aikido Yoshinkai Foundation in Tokyo, Japan, via the International Yoshinkan Aikido Federation (IYAF). This school is also a member of the Aikido Yoshinkan Yoseikai family of schools, headed by Amos L. Parker Shihan.
Tsuneo Ando was born in 1956 in Nihama City, Ehime Prefecture on the island of Shikoku. He attended Tokushima University where he studied engineering. Ando Sensei joined the Tokushima University Aikido Club where he first became captivated by aikido. After graduating from university Ando Sensei was briefly employed by a chemical company, however he quickly decided that the life of a Japanese salary-man was not for him. He had already been greatly impressed by Shioda Sensei`s technique when he attended a Yoshinkan Aikido training camp and so, in 1981, he joined the Yoshinkai as uchi deshi. Ando Sensei spent over 14 years at the Yoshinkan as uchi deshi.
